THE JACK AUSTIN SERIES
In the Author's WordsThere are many similarities between the worlds created by classic detective fiction writers like Raymond Chandler and Robert B. Parker and the lives players lead on the PGA Tour. On Tour, players perform alone, strive to master a game that can not be perfected, and govern themselves by rules that call upon one's integrity. This is all very much like the fictional worlds created by authors such as Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, and contemporary authors such as Parker, James Lee Burke, and others whose protagonists struggle through day-to-day existence in an effort to live by his or her personal code.
The Austin series features protagonist Jack Austin, a Maine native, and long-hitting, poor-putting journeyman PGA Tour player who suffers from dyslexia. The family of characters is rounded out by Perkins, Austin's lifelong best friend, a former police officer working now as a private investigator; Austin's wife Lisa Trembley-Austin, head golf analyst for CBS; daughter Darcy; Tim Silver, Jack's openly gay caddy; and Nash Henley, a dyslexic youth whom Jack treats like a younger brother. The series is grounded in rich detail and research and offers a realistic view of day-to-day life on Tour.
